0028 cropped I have been asked…over and over…where Edie Grace’s name came from.  You know what they say about “never saying never” right???  I always said that I would NEVER use family names if we were ever blessed enough to become parents.  WELL…when we found out that we were expecting a girl my heart skipped a beat!  I immediately started thinking about all things girl…barbies, dance lessons, braided hair and even a fairy tale wedding.  Names began to float through our daily conversations.  What would we name her???  We decided to NOT tell anyone what we decided until her birth, just in case when we met her face-to-face, the name needed some tweaking.  This was a bit aggravating to our families.  At a family dinner, about three weeks before the birth, my Dad was really pressing the name issue.  DeWayne said, “OK, OK we will tell you…we are trying to decide between two names.  We want her to get used to the name(s) people will call her in the future.  The two names are…Governor OR Senator.”     My Dad didn’t miss a beat and said, “You know, he probably isn’t kidding”.  My grandmother chimed in and said, “Well at least you won’t be naming her Edith…I have never liked my name”.  0022 cropped

You know “the rest of the story”.  We did name her Edie Grace.  Edie after my Dad’s Mom Edith and Grace after my Mom’s Mom Grace.  We chose the two names after we realized that Edie Grace’s due date of May 11th was between Memaw Edith and Granny Grace’s birthdays that are also in May.  It just seemed to fit.  Of course Edie Grace got in a little bit of a rush and my water broke on May 6th which was Granny Grace’s birthday.  Granny Grace STILL holds it against me that I didn’t have my C-section until after midnight which caused Edie Grace’s birthday to be May 7th.        Granny Grace turned 91 this year and Memaw Edith turned 83.  We are so very blessed to still have four generations two ways.  Edie Grace was born having     four generations three ways & when you count step-parents—five ways!  1 yr eg grandmas
