A "Treat" for you with no "Tricks" $29 session

What would you say if I offered you a session shot by me - Lori Grice - for only $29?  Even better - what if I told you that I will sell you ANYTHING you want to purchase from the session at Gil’s prices??  How in the world can you beat that?  You can not take a picture yourself and beat that price and quality!!  SPREAD THE WORD!  This is a ONCE in a LIFE TIME opportunity.

Remember my Uncle Gil?  He owns Regency Photo where I started “working” when I was only eight years old.  (My real job there began when I was 15.)  I give him most of the credit (or blame-depending on the day) for introducing me to the world of photography.

Each month o0099f our 20 year anniversary in business we have been doing some sort of fun special.  I call them, “It’s our birthday but we are giving the gifts to you!”  October’s event is a BIG THANK YOU to my Uncle Gil.  We will be offering two days of Halloween Quick-Take sessions that he will print for you into a cool little purse size book.

The package includes a 10 minute session and the book of images for only $29 (plus tax) shot on location at Regency Photo in Statesboro.  You will be able to order additional images from Regency for all of your friends and relatives.  These sessions are first come/first serve and only most likely will sell out quickly!  100% of the proceeds will go to Gil and Regency Photo as a small token of the appreciation I have for all everything he and Kathy have done for me my WHOLE life.  My life would not have been the same without them!  It is also a great opportunity for me to introduce you to my “secret weapon” uncle Gil.  He is the most knowledgeable person I have ever met when it comes to all things photographic - from your camera to the processing - he has it covered.

Halloween costumes or casual clothes are preferred.  (These will be “fun shots” not portraits.)

Session Dates:  Wednesday, October 24 - 4 to 7PM Shot on location at Regency Photo in Statesboro

Wednesday, October 31 - 2 - 6 PM shot on location at Regency Photo in Statesboro

$29 paid by check or cash directly to Regency Photo.  I will photograph the session on location at Regency Photo and you will receive a photo book of images.  You may purchase additional images directly from Regency Photo. Get there early to beat the crowd - at this price - it is going to be crazy!!!

Sorority Girls…

Tag: BeachLori Grice @ 9:41 pm

IMG_2719 I really haven’t thought about how neat it is to have TWO double neighbors.  But I do have two.  Here at the studio, on East Main Street, we are neighbors with the Strickland’s who own H&R Block across the street and with the Parker’s who own Parker Realty right next door.  In addition to them being East Main neighbors we are also neighbors at Tybee and we almost always go at the same time.  Pretty neat, huh?

This weekend was a very special weekend for Mrs. Strickland.  Forty five years ago she graduated from West Virginia University and was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.  At graduation these Alpha Phi’s made a pact to get together every five years.  This year they meet at Tybee, Island, Georgia at the Strickland’s condo.  What a great tradition!

I was honored to get to meet and photograph this wonderful group of girls this weekend.  They could not ask for better weather.  It was so hard to leave the beach to come back to reality today.

Included in the picture (not in order) is: Judy Auld Strickland - Statesboro, GA, Helen Brown Dotson - Lewisburg, WV, Bonnie Derr Landis - Front Royal, VA, Judy Fisher Montjoy - Winston-Salem, NC, Lee Hall Drowne Pearman - Pulaski, VA, Elinor Hamill Fries - Coppell, TX, Sandi Reed Mitchell - Kettering, OH, Sue Slaven Thomas - Stoughton, MA, Ann Wallace Strader - Mt. Lebanon, PA, and Nancy White - Canal Winchester, OH

Family Legacy…

Tag: Family PortraitsLori Grice @ 9:32 pm

Duggan-aThis family have been wonderful friends and clients of mine for longer than they care for me to mention.  They understand the importance of portraits in documenting artistically their family’s legacy.   They elected to have this portrait painted as an oil.  This truly makes it a wonderful piece of art!  Soon this portrait will be hanging in a prominent place for their family to enjoy for generations.

grice17751

One of the my favorite watercolors I created for members of this family.  Melissa and Doug (son and daughter-n-law) were building a new home several years ago and they had a wonderful family room with high ceilings.  They wanted an art piece that would become the center piece of the room.  They also wanted a portrait that would include their children but they did not want a traditional formal or posed portrait.  In fact, Melissa’s hope was that I could create a portrait that captured her children’s personality in such an artistic way that visitors to their home would first notice the beautiful art piece and then, after closer inspection, realize it was a portrait of their children.

From the feedback they receive every time someone visits their home - I think we accomplished this goal.

The “new” fad in photography is “capturing life as it happens”.   I created this casual portrait over three years ago.  I guess I was a little ahead of my time?  Or maybe something old is new again?

Regardless, I am honored each time a client entrusts me to create “the” portrait for their family.  Their homes are filled with beautiful portraits that provide them, and all of us, a wonderful walk down memory lane!

I look forward to continuing to artistically document their future generations!

Where is the fish?

Tag: ChildrenLori Grice @ 11:26 pm

Is she adorable or what?  Guido Gardens is one of my favorite places to visit and photograph.  This beautiful little girl was just as interested in the colorful fish in the fountains than she was in her portrait session.  She was a trooper and the results show it.  On the way over to the gardens we paused for a few minutes at this railroad track.  The tree line and the light were so wonderful.  I love stopping there every time  because it reminds me of the long walks me and my Aunt Kathy would take on some tracks near her house.

I wish I could be a Senior…again

Another fun Tatnall senior!  I just don’t remember having as many pretty girls in High school as I photograph now!  And smart too!  One senior from last year told me that her GPA was 98.3 — which blew me away.  THEN…she went on to say that even with that GPA she was only 16th in her class.  Go figure!  I am not sure if  my class’ Valedictorian’s GPA was that high!

The book she has in her hand is 1984.  I was surprised that “big brother” is still popular reading material.  I can’t remember if we all had to read it or if it was a choice in High School.  I do remember it being the cause for many lively discussions!

New for today…I want to start sharing some of my favorite quotes from time to time.  Send me some of your favs so I can share them too!

Trash the dress..

Tag: SeniorLori Grice @ 10:02 pm

IMG_9669RG the prom is over and the experience was more than you imagined.  You have a very expensive dress in your closet with no plan to EVER wear it again.  What should you do with it?  Trash it?  Yeah….TRASH IT!

High school seniors are always looking for a way to rebel in a way that will certainly scream their independence.  One of the hottest new fads hitting the photography industry today are the after prom - trash the dress sessions.  Some brides are even getting into the act along with their brides maids…can you imagine?

This senior from Tattnall High School was a great sport and enjoyed drowning this gown.  I am including a few of my favorites from her session in addition to the ones from “trashing the dress”.

I am not sure had more fun the senior, her mom or me!  IMG_9649RG IMG_9644RG

Fair time!

Tag: Personal, Studio EventsLori Grice @ 10:08 pm

DSCN2465Fall is almost here because it is FAIR WEEK!  The weather forecast is calling for much cooler temperatures toward the end of the week.  I am not sure why it works this way - but it never fails.

I LOVE the fair!  DeWayne and Edie Grace are always concerned that I might just join the carnies and never return.  Many of you who live in the area enjoy stopping by my fair booth.  Before the blog - it was the best way for you to get to see what was new with our studio.  This year I did a reflective display celebrating 20 years of creating beautiful portraits for many of you.  Of course I do not have a picture to show you tonight - because I can not remember to take one.  (It is a little harder with an energetic six year old to do much more than ride rides and eat junk food)  I promise to post one tomorrow night.

If you do go to the fair make sure and register for some GREAT give-a-way’s.

Edie Grace enjoyed a few of the rides and scoped out many more that she will conquer over the next few nights.

The guy who looks like he works at the fair is my Favorite Uncle Gil.  Gil owns Regency Photo a magical place where everyone who owns a camera of any quality must use! Even if you are not in the Statesboro area, you can use his services via the web!

He is the person who mentored me and created my interest in photography.  He gave me my first camera when I was only two years older than Edie Grace is now.  (she is six).

He is one of the most giving people you will EVER meet.  This week you will see him all over the fair volunteering his time and talent to many wonderful organizations.  (Thanks, Gil, for all the help you gave me and Believer’s Church too!)

Tonight he was helping make funnel cakes.  Edie Grace and I think they were the best funnel cakes we ever ate!

Downtown…get down…

Tag: Studio EventsLori Grice @ 10:11 pm

DSCN2436 Seventeen years ago when I opened my studio on Main street in downtown Statesboro there were more store fronts boarded up than there was actual operating businesses.  I dreamed of the day that downtown would once again be a destination.  People would come, dine, shop and simply enjoy our beautiful downtown.

Tonight it was certainly a dream come true.  Over 1,000 people came to our first Friday downtown event.  Tonight Georgia Southern University agreed to host a parents of freshman reception downtown.  We had live music and our staff popped and gave away nearly 500 bags of popcorn.

It was so great to see every parking space full and the courthouse square full of people!  Hopefully this event will continue to grow.  Watch for first Friday specials at our studio in future blogs.

We look forward to seeing you downtown soon!DSCN2441 DSCN2443

Pretty as a peach..

Tag: Baby's First Year, Family PortraitsLori Grice @ 9:11 pm

IMG_0100RG My granddad always told me that.  He was always so full of wonderful compliments for his favorite (and only) granddaughter.  When I photographed this beautiful family and awesome little girl - I thought about my granddad.  She certainly is “pretty as a peach!

We met this couple through our church.  They are a wonderful young Christian family.  Dad also is the secret behind our blog.  He is our webmaster and I know some days he wonders why God ever put us in his path!  The success of our blog and our web site has exceeded all of our expectations.  Thank you VERNON!

If you are having web problems or want to improve your current web site or maybe even add a blog - then he is your man.  His company is Nexlevsolutions.  Check him out and tell him how much you love what he does for us and you deserve the same!

Vernon is very gifted and he can translate computer talk to plain English.

Recently we were with some executives from Apple.  They explained to me that there are two new terms to identify peoples level of computer skills or knowledge - “digital immigrant” or “digital native”.  I am an immigrant - Vernon is a native.  Edie Grace is definitely a native.  The difference is basically your age and if you were born into the computer generation or before it.

I remember my parents telling me about when their parents received their first telephone and about life before cable TV.  These seemed so strange to me when I was younger.  I feel so old now sharing stories about when I was in college and  had no email, Internet or cell phones.  We actually had to go to the library to research papers.

Well thanks to Vernon and lot’s of others we are staying in tune with this changing world.IMG_0131RG IMG_0140RG

Jacqueline needs your help!

Tag: PersonalLori Grice @ 8:05 pm

I have not had the opportunity to meet Jacqueline - but hope to do so this Saturday.  She is the beautiful little girl that is the same age as my daughter Edie Grace.  Her dad works with several wonderful clients and friends of ours in Savannah.  Life has changed dramatically for her and her family.  On August 31, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and has been undergoing treatment ever since.

This Saturday from 11 to 3 their friends are hosting a fund raiser for her.  Look at the flyer below and join Edie Grace, DeWayne and I on Wilmington Island as we join them and their friends in raising much needed funds to help with her sudden medical expenses.

Her story has really touched our heart.  Every night Edie Grace and I have added her and her mom and dad to our prayer list.  I ask each of you to do the same.
