Tennessee Professional Photographers

Tag: PersonalLori Grice @ 6:36 pm

DSCN3906 IMG_5253 The primary reason for the fun trip to Nashville was to speak to the Tennessee Professional Photographers Association’s meeting at Montgomery Bell State Resort Park.  The venue was absolutely breathtaking.  It is definitely a place we want to go back to when we have more time.  My two hour speech focused on the changes in the photography industry.  I discussed current trends in the marketplace and challenges brought on by a huge surge of hobbyist photographers.  This shift in the industry has been caused by digital cameras and the perception that photography is easier now.  I shared with them lots of wonderful images created for each of you.  I also gave them some tools to evaluate where they are currently and how to chart a course to get them where they want to be.IMG_5264

IMG_5300 DeWayne shared our journey as partners in life and business.  He also shared with them our journey through cancer.  Each of them received a cancer poster along with a challenge to place them in the most popular OB/GYN office in each of their communities.

Edie Grace was, of course, the featured speaker and shared some powerful comments to the group.

My next speaking gig will be in Boston soon.  More on that later.DSCN3867 FSCN3880

Danielle Peck: Bad for Me?

Tag: Modeling/Individual portraitsLori Grice @ 10:20 pm

GRICE_33 I promised you a VERY special surprise from my Nashville trip and here it is.  How many of you are country music fans?  More specifically Danielle Peck fans?  If you are, you have probably seen her music video from her latest released single - “Bad for Me.”  The male model staring in the video - the one that is bad for her - is a long time Lori Grice client and Georgia Southern grad Keith Johnson.  Keith graduated from GSU with an engineering degree and grew up in Baxley.  While he was at GSU I discovered him and was the first photographer to photograph him professionally.  The image attached was his first modeling gig that helped me along the road to obtaining my Masters.  The twins were borrowed for the portrait.  Shortly after this session I sent a few of his images to a friend of mine that was shooting covers for Vogue, Cosmo, Vanity Fair and a few other publications.  He went nuts over Keith and the rest is history.acn0089

aar0025 After several years of modeling professionally, Keith moved to Nashville to continue his modeling career and pursue his music talents.  In addition to staring in Danielle Peck’s video, he has recorded a few songs of his own and is currently working to release his first album.  He is touring with a full band now and we hope to have him in the ‘Boro soon. In fact, that would make a GREAT THIRD girls night out - a “private” concert ONLY for Lori Grice clients?  What do you think?

I have photographed him several times along the way.  On Thursday night I was his guest at FUEL in Downtown Nashville where he was the featured performer for the evening.DSCN3660

I have never been a groupie before - but hanging out and feeling the energy of that crowd - I can understand why people become groupies.  I photographed him on Friday for some upcoming events.  He is going to be featured on some billboards throughout Nashville and I will get that image to you as soon as it is up.IMG_7122BW IMG_6941RG

I know what you’re thinking, it is a tuff job - but somebody has to do it right?  Below is a slide show from the Nashville session.  The music you are hearing is Keith singing one of his newly released singles “Caroline”.  Enjoy!

Loveless Cafe

Tag: PersonalLori Grice @ 9:16 pm

Loveless On Friday I told you about how excited we were to catch up with old friends and clients in Nashville.  We met them at the world famous, legendary Loveless Cafe outside of Nashville.  Unfortunately, even with plans, there was an hour wait.  So we ended up at a less famous but almost as good China Spring restaurant.  DSCN3851 Our famous friends are Toby and Janis Ellington.  Toby is a powerful executive with one of the largest communication companies in the world and Janis is a sought after addiction counselor.  (Fortunately she has not cured Toby of his addiction to her) They are VERY plugged in to the Nashville scene.  (Not sure why they did not get us moved up on the Loveless wait list - but I am assuming they did not want to show off)  They are long time clients of ours.  They are most known around the studio as the couple that flew me and DeWayne to a posh resort in Jamaica to photograph them for their save the date cards, wedding announcement images and images for their memory board at their wedding.  Unfortunately that was back in the film days so the pictures are not as easy to post here.  That will make a great future blog.  They are a super fun couple and we are thrilled that they are doing so well.China Spring

It is always great to see old friends and learn about their success.  We appreciate the memorable meal and the great company at the soon to be famous China Spring restaurant guys!  I hope they know about the newly formed tradition of taking their photographer back to the location of their engagement session on EVERY significant anniversary!

Cooter’s Place

Tag: Edie Grace, PersonalLori Grice @ 9:51 pm

DSCN3781 Yes this is not a typo and I have not been drinking.  So what do you do in Nashville when you have a little time to kill waiting on your client for your afternoon session?  You take your six year old daughter to Cooter’s Place the official Dukes of Hazzard museum and all things Cooter place.  Most of us grew up watching the Dukes either in the original series or through re-runs.  What a great educational experience this was for Edie Grace.  I can not believe how popular the Dukes of Hazzard remains.  “Just Good Ole Boys, Never Meaning No Harm….” the jingle will be stuck in my head for a while now.  Here are a few picts of our Cooter’s Place experience.  This brought back some interesting memories for DeWayne.  He actually worked for while with one of the “traveling” General Lee’s as a photographer.  These cars traveled around to malls and other venues.  He said that people would stand in line for HOURS to have their picture taken in front of the car.  He used a Polaroid camera and has some interesting stories about this experience.  But these would be suited for another web site or at the very least another blog.  No, Edie Grace did not know what a Polaroid was.  We are still trying to explain that one to her.  Are we really that OLD??DSCN3787 DSCN3790

General Jackson

Tag: Edie Grace, PersonalLori Grice @ 9:17 pm

DSCN3769 Edie Grace was so EXCITED to get to go for a dinner cruise on the General Jackson.  Today was the inaugural cruise featuring the Peking Acrobats.  This trip was arranged by our friends Josh and Penny Aubrey.  Josh is pretty famous around the ‘Boro.  He hosts our local Headline News updates and co-hosts with Nate Hirsch a daily show “Upon Further Review”.  They have a family connection to the General Jackson and were kind to set us up.DSCN3672

We all had a blast.  The boat is beautiful, the food was phenomenal and the entertainment was incredible.  Edie Grace assisted with the pre-show entertainment helping sing a few songs.  The Peking Acrobats are breathtaking.  I could not imagine doing any of the things they did on land - let alone on a moving boat! This is a Nashville tradition that I highly recommend.DSCN3717

Nashville, here we are…

Tag: Personal, Studio EventsLori Grice @ 1:06 am

ErnieJohnson  In Nashville for a few days.  No, I am not cutting that long awaited record.  That is one thing that will stay on my to do list a little longer.  I have been invited by the President Elect of the American Society of Photographers Ernie Johnson to speak at the Tennessee Photographers Association’s spring seminar this weekend.  Ernie is also the Executive Director of the Tennessee association.  Ernie and I became friends on the speaking and judging circuit. We first met when we both spoke to the Alabama- Mississippi Professional Photographers Association.  He is one of the most accomplished and sought after photographers in the Country.  His studio is in Franklin, Tennessee just outside of Nashville Lorraine Johnsonand his clients list reads like a who’s who of America.  It is always an honor to have the opportunity to share my story with my peers.  This invitation was a very special honor because it was a favor for Ernie and his beautiful wife Lorraine.  They own Artistic Images by Ernie K in Franklin, Tennessee.

Edie Grace is joining us and we have a few fun things planned along with the work.  Today we are going take a lunch cruise on the General Jackson, and shoot a session with a client here in Nashville. (Ladies you are going to enjoy this one!)  Tomorrow we will be traveling to a resort outside of Nashville to speak.  On the way, we are very excited to be having lunch with TWO of Nashville’s most prominent citizens and Lori Grice clients.  They have made reservations at Nashville’s most posh and exclusive restaurant.  We are very excited about seeing them again and having a great meal.  Will give you updates along the way!

Aspiring model?

Tag: Baby's First Year, ChildrenLori Grice @ 9:37 pm

IMG_1766 When you are the middle child things do not always go your way - so I hear.  I have photographed this young man since his birth, as I have his younger brother and the older brother since he was two.  It was little brother’s first birthday but the other two brothers came along and this one stole the show.   Wanted to share a few with you from the session.  Traveling today so I do not have access to all the files to properly embarrass him - like his naked baby pictures.  Will do that soon.  I am including a few of the birthday boy and older brother too.  I know what your thinking - how  can you possibly go wrong with these handsome guys.  Imagine mom’s job of picking her favorites from these photogenic boys.  Not to worry - dad came along and he was LOTS of help - right mom? This family have been great fans of mine for some time - as I am great fans of theirs.IMG_1763 IMG_1783

Savannah’s portrait artist

Tag: Children, Family PortraitsLori Grice @ 10:29 pm

02/07/2008 It is one of the many title’s that I have grown to cherish.  It is a title that took years to earn.  But it is when a new client moves to town and describes me as such I know then that my years of work have paid off.  There is no greater compliment than to be sought after because simply Savannah is what they desire. These guys were so much fun.  They are new to Savannah and have traveled around the country as dad continues to take on larger and larger challenges with his work.  Portraits are VERY important to mom.  In every city they have lived mom has researched the photographers in the market and selected “the” photographer.  She says that she looks for a portrait artist who’s work represents the area and that speaks to you in moving ways.  She goes on to describe the first time she saw my portraits.  She was “stopped” in her tracks.  Well I am honored that she selected me as her portrait artist to help create beautiful portraits of her family.  The portraits that will tell the story of their life in Savannah.  This is just the beginning of our journey.  We have lots of plans and you are going to enjoy each and every one of them.   No matter if you are visiting Savannah for a weekend or lived here all of your life - I look forward to creating a “simply Savannah” portrait for your family.
