Congratulations Class of 2008 - Chelsea

Tag: SeniorLori Grice @ 10:32 pm

0057 Chelsea and her cousin are both seniors at Claxton High School this year.  They were lots of fun to work with.  We created some great images for them both.  Here are a few of my favorites from Chelsea’s session.

Congratulations Chelsea!

FINAL CARD Congratulations Lacy!  This week I am featuring some of my favorite senior sessions.  Lacy has one of the coolest mom’s ever.  She allowed Lacy to “TRASH HER PROM DRESS” during her senior session.  Click on the link and check out her Senior session.

This card was sent to out of town relatives and special friends as part of her graduation announcement.  Below is her actual graduation invitation - created in by our studio.

She is a senior at CHS - Claxton High School.

Best of luck Lacy!

Card_front FINAL

This year has been a wonderful & fun year of Card_inside_top FINALcreating beautiful Senior portraits.  Few portrait sessions are as important and unique as the senior sessions.  We limit the number of seniors we photograph annually because I want them to be creatively different.  I also spend a good bit more time with seniors trying to learn as much about them as possible.  This allows me to capture their personality through portraits.  It is important to tell their story.  This is their opportunity to display their independence and set in place the steps to blaze their trail.  Over the next few posts I will be featuring some of my favorite senior portrait sessions from this past year.  I encourage any of you who have rising seniors to call NOW and get on the ‘09 senior list. Yes, this is her graduation announcement.  There are very few things this beautiful, smart young lady does the same as everyone else.  She deserves an invitation that expresses her uniqueness.  I think we accomplished this with her announcements.  By the way - she was crowned Miss Statesboro High a few weeks ago.

Congratulations Marlee!

Farmers Market fun…

Tag: Downtown Events, Edie Gracedewayne @ 9:15 pm

DSCN5264 The farmers market Saturday was lots of fun.  There was ton’s of great produce - direct from the fields.  Since your purchasing directly from the growers - the prices were great also.  Most importantly the market had the best fresh popcorn and home made (well almost) lemonade. Thanks to all of you who stopped by Edie Grace’s popcorn and lemonade stand.  She had a blast!  She helped get everything together and did a great job minding the store most of the morning.  Notice who is Thing One - guess who two and three is?  Special thanks to all the grand parents who got up early to come out and support the families newest entrepreneur.  Our neighbor Cadance and her mom are great encouragers to Edie Grace and we appreciate all they do for us!  Cadance is in the picture with Edie Grace on Edie Grace’s "little" girl bike. We hope you will come out for the next one which will be the first Saturday in June in the Sea Island Bank parking lot - beside the studio.FSCN5283 FSCN5284 DSCN5257

Downtown Farmers Market Saturday - don’t MISS IT!

Tag: Downtown EventsLori Grice @ 11:10 pm

DSCN4106 This Saturday will be our second in our monthly downtown farmers markets.  Sea Island Bank (beside my office and across the street from the courthouse) will be the location for this event.  With gas prices higher than ever - more people than ever are interested in buying direct from farmers.  The selection is predicted to be amazing.  The market opens at 9AM and ends at noon.  The last one drew over 2,500 people downtown.  So my advice is come early!  Edie Grace wants to pop popcorn and make lemonade to sell to make some money to fund her summer activities.  So come hungry and thirsty and look for us.  Nothing like lemonade and popcorn for breakfast - is there?

We hope to see you there for great farm fresh vegetables and some great organics - plus world famous Edie Grace popcorn and lemonade!

Watercolor’s for heirloom portraits

Tag: Children, Heirloom PortraitLori Grice @ 10:02 pm

taylor-a Most of our clients commission me to create oil portraits as the heirloom portrait of their children.  Many of you have fallen in love with the look and feel of my watercolors and have chosen them as the medium of choice for your heirloom.  Heirloom portraits are created between three and five - before your children lose their teeth.  Once they lose there teeth it is amazing how fast they begin to grow up - losing forever the beautiful features of childhood.  Documenting important physical characteristics like their fingers, toes, jaw structure and facial features with as much detail as possible - so this important moment in time will be frozen forever.  The watercolor featured in today’s blog is the second one we have created for this family.  They chose to commission me at age three for their daughters.  The first one you see here we completed a few weeks ago.  Both of the girls were photographed at a very sentimental home that has been in their family for generations.  The gardens on this property are incredible and peak each spring.  After I knew I had “the portrait”  - we had fun shooting casual portraits of both girls.  This venue allowed for many wonderful opportunities.  We are creating albums of the day for the grandmothers and the parents.  What an incredible keepsake these girls will have to remember a special day with their parents and grand’s.  Mom and Dad really understand and appreciate the investment in fine portraits.  As their families portrait artist we have documented and created some unbelievable portraits and the oldest is just turning six this week.

Mom and dad are already brainstorming about their next session which will take place in the girls AMAZING playhouse.  It is truly one of the most incredible - two story play houses I have ever seen.  I can’t wait!  Not to give to much away about this special family - but dad worked at Harrods’ in London after college as one of the buyers for the royal family.  I am in hopes that he will soon email us some pictures and stories from that experience.  I am also including big sisters watercolor that we created two years ago.grice19216 IMG_7755 We narrowed down to quite a few images for their album from the day.  It was VERY hard to select a few for you to see here - these are some I thought would give you a feel of how incredible this day was.

Fun at Grandpa’s

Tag: Children, Heirloom PortraitLori Grice @ 4:25 pm

IMG_9918-1 This place is simply a little slice of heaven!  Grand dad worked most of his life building this amazing escape before he went to heaven a short while ago.  I have been honored to photograph this family for generations.  In fact, grandmother has commissioned me to create portraits of each grandchild at four.  This was the last one (we think) and it was special because it will be the last.  Fortunately, big brother was there also - so we had the opportunity to play a little after we finished the formal portrait.  Many of our clients prefer the classic look of formal portraits - but they want to do some more casual fun images that capture personalities as well.  This is exactly what I did with this family.  IMG_9890 IMG_9955

Be Sun Smart…

Tag: Business, Studio EventsLori Grice @ 11:18 pm

DSCN4455 Don’t miss Dr. Deo Klein’s FREE skin cancer screening this Saturday, May 17th from 9am - 2pm.    Call 912.489.3700 to reserve your time.  Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month is sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology and Statesboro Dermatology.  Statesboro Dermatology is located at 1161 Sarahlyn Lane, Suite A (across from Mill Creek Park).  Just think, you could get your screening done, then spend a fun day across the street at Splash in the ‘Boro WITH sunscreen!   Dr. Klein’s granddaughters are two of my favorite little girls to photograph.  Mom and dad are not to bad to work with either.  So take some time this Saturday to get that spot checked out you have been worrying about!0042  In addition to being a great friend and client - Dr. Klien has been our dermatologist for years.  We simply did not understand the value of sunscreen when we were younger and now we are all paying for it.

Hope to see you Saturday!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

Tag: PersonalLori Grice @ 7:53 pm

DSCN4957 Being a Mom is such a big job, but it seems like the little things are what are important!  My friend Liz told me a story this week about a CRAZY morning she was having with her three kids.  She said that in the middle of it she just started laughing out loud.  Her husband asked what she was laughing about.  She said…”These are the moments I want to remember and savor forever”.

May your Mother’s Day be the BEST one you have ever had!  Take time to think about the things you want to remember forever.  Better yet, make today the day you start a journal for your kids by writing some of your favorite memories down.  You don’t have to do it every day, or even every week - but when you do sit down and read what you wrote it is amazing how those moments are captured in your heart forever.

I received this via email this week and wanted to share it with you…

Before I was a Mom,

I never tripped over toys

or forgot words to a lullaby.

I didn’t worry whether or not

my plants were poisonous.

I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,

I had never been puked on.

Pooped on.

Chewed on.

Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind

and my thoughts.

I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,

I never held down a screaming child

so doctors could do tests.

Or give shots.

I never looked into teary eyes and cried.

I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.

I never sat up late hours at night

watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,

I never held a sleeping baby just because

I didn’t want to put her down.

I never felt my heart break into a million pieces

when I couldn’t stop the hurt.

I never knew that something so small

could affect my life so much.

I never knew that I could love someone so much.

I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom,

I didn’t know the feeling of

having my heart outside my body.

I didn’t know how special it could feel

to feed a hungry baby.

I didn’t know that bond

between a mother and her child.

I didn’t know that something so small

could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom,

I had never gotten up in the middle of the night

every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.

I had never known the warmth,

the joy,

the love,

the heartache,

the wonderment

or the satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much,

before I was a Mom.

Send this to someone who you think is a special Mom.

…and this concludes "Party Week"

Tag: Edie GraceLori Grice @ 9:48 pm

IMG_5718RG Edie Grace’s 7th birthday party week has been a blast!  We kicked it off last Saturday with a family party, went to Savannah on her actual birthday on Wednesday, and ended it with a party of friends.  (for the first time we let HER create the guest list)  The friend party was held at “Mommies’ Mommies”(my mom’s) house here in Statesboro.  Her guest list included friends from just about all of her life experiences to date:  daycare to dance…family life center to Pinewood to church — she invited a few from each it seems.

Her party included swimming, fingernail and toenail painting, limbo, banana split making, playhouse playing and swinging and bouncing on the play set the Easter Bunny dropped off in March.

We have had a great week.  On Wednesday, she picked out her new “big girl” bike that she can ride without training wheels.  Of course, she picked the High School Musical with a picture of Troy Bolton on it.  I think all of our parents are trying to make up for all the things they were not able to do for us.  It is tuff to keep Edie Grace grounded in reality.  Thank goodness birthday’s come only once per year!IMG_5506RG IMG_5528RG
